Vuci Methodist School has placed the theme ‘Year of Education’ this year to motivate students in their studies.

Assistant headteacher Jiten Singh, during the induction of the school’s 78 prefects, said: “Fiji needs quality leaders in the future. If we build a strong foundation in our children’s education, we will fulfil what Government is doing in building a better Fiji.”

Co-assistant headteacher Ruci Lutua added: “At Vuci Methodist School our motto is Enter to Learn and Go Forth to Serve. We emphasise on quality education and our student leaders are selected to lead and become good future leaders.”

The prefects were inducted by Dilkusha Methodist Circuit minister and the chairman of Dilkusha School Council,  Reverend Adriel Sami.

He said parents should spend more time with their children.

“Everything starts at home,” he said.

“Parents what are we doing? There are child abuses and rapes because parents do not spend quality time with children. We should protect and educate our children. Government has done its part in helping education, we should do ours.”

He challenged the prefects to lead by example.

“Be a good leader. Leaders help and show others the way. Lead from the front to gain the support and trust of students,” he said.

Headboy Ariva Waqa is from Kade, Koro, Lomaiviti.

“I was born in Nausori. My wish is to study hard, enrol into Ratu Kadavulevu School next year, become a professional rugby player and one day visit my island,” he said.

His father did not attend the induction.

“He works hard every day as a fuel tank driver for Mobil. I thank him because he taught me discipline and to study hard to get a better job.”

Headgirl Simran Prasad’s parents did not attend the event because they work in Suva.

“I wish they were here, but they always taught me to be a role model in everything I do. I will not let the school down because I will lead by example,” she said

“I want to be a lawyer in the future to help children who are victims of rape and abuse.
