A Labasa canecutter has been awarded around $122,000 after a bus he was travelling in crashed into a train in 2013.

Prabhu Lal of Labasa had sustained injuries to his right rib and his left leg was crushed in the accident on March 14, 2013.

The accident left him unemployed and not in a position to earn a living.

He used to earn $25 per day during the harvesting season and $15 per day during the non-harvesting season.

Judge Justice Kamal Kumar, in a judgment passed this week, ordered that bus operator Parmod Enterprises Limited pay Mr Lal the costs including loss of income.

Justice Kumar also awarded costs for a toilet and bathroom that was constructed for Mr Lal which was built to his specific needs.

The costs awarded has to be paid by Parmod Enterprises Limited and the bus driver who was driving the bus at the time of the accident.
