Gearing Up For Games

The Shop N Save Athletics Fiji began the season with their Grand Prix Series at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.
“This is all part of the off-season programme and building up to the Melanesian Games in July,” Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joe Rodan Jnr said.
“The last time we had the Melanesian Games was in 2001, although it was included in the Athletics Championships in 2009.
‘We have the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Tuvalu, Fiji, Norfolk Island and Australia that will be participating at the ANZ Stadium.
“We’re expecting 400 athletes to compete in the Under-18, Open and Masters’ categories.
“Australia will provide good competition together with the Papua New Guinea, the defending champions of the Pacific Games. We’re banking on our U18 team to lift their performance.
The next Grand Prix Series will be held at Xavier College in Ba next week.* Full results tomorrow
