Ba twins, Jeshneel and Yashneel Singh, 18, of Koronubu, have a reason for wanting to join the Fiji Police Force.

They want to help fight crime and end home burglaries and animal thefts in their area – a sugarcane farming community.

The twins joined hundreds of young men and women at the recruitment drive at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, Suva, yesterday for Police intake.

The hardship their family endures as a result of the break-ins and thefts of their livestock has influenced the pair to become lawmen.

And to make ends meet, the two had been home since end of school last year to safeguard their family and look after the farm and their animals.

Their father, Ishwar Chand has also been bedridden from a kidney ailment.

“Farming is our main source of income and our father cannot farm anymore because he is very sick,” Mr Jeshneel said.

His brother said they knew about the recruitment drive by reading the Fiji Sun last week.

“It has always been my interest to be a Police officer. Our house has always been broken into and thieves usually steal our goats and horses and also from those in our area. We want to help stop these crimes because families like ours are even trying to make ends meet,” Mr Yashneel said.

The Force, meanwhile, hopes to recruit 120 cadets to be trained as Police officers.

Police chief operations officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu said the recruits, when they graduate, would fill the Constable ranks after promotions and to also cater for those who had retired.

ACP Tudravu said the recruitment would boost their manpower deployment on the ground
