A man charged with the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Nakasi in 2012 walked away a free man on Monday.
Ashwin Rohit Kumar was acquitted by Justice Acahala Wengapulli the High Court in Suva on Monday.
It is alleged that between May 1 and June 30, 2012 at Vavalagi Place in Nakasi, Kumar allegedly raped his friend’s eight-year-old daughter.
Kumar had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge. Majority of the assessors had also found him not guilty during the trial.
While delivering his judgement, Justice Wengapulli said the Prosecution’s evidence presented through the victim was not sufficient to establish the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.
He then acquitted Kumar accordingly.
