MFO Reassures Partnership

Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) director-general, David Satterfield has reassured the continued participation of Fijian peacekeeping troops serving in Sinai.
He made the assurance while meeting the acting Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto at Berkeley Crescent, Suva, yesterday.
He reassured their support towards the participation and engagement of Fijian troops serving under the MFO in Sinai. There are currently 330 Fijians deployed in Sinai.
“We will do everything in our power to assure that your forces have the best possible protection to allow them to carry out their mission in an effective, efficient and safe manner as possible,” Mr Satterfield said.
He said one of the main purposes of his visit was to express the MFO appreciation for the extraordinary services the RFMF offered for many years.
“The challenges in Sinai have been very exceptional, but the performance of Fijian troops; their courage, dedication and their commitment to the peacekeeping mission has been equally exceptional,” Mr Satterfield said.
Rear Admiral Naupoto said the meeting was timely.
“We had an opportunity to discuss some of the changes that are coming up in the configuration of MFO in the way we are going to be deployed and that would have an impact on our preparation here in Fiji,” he said.
Mr Satterfield was also accorded a traditional welcoming ceremony at the Queen Elizabeth
