International School Suva is taking a serious approach in preparing its students to participate in school athletics competition.

Physical Education teacher Tanya Vatubua said they were looking at records after their interhouse which ended at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

“We’re expecting good records from the jumps and the throws; for our athletes to qualify and participate in the Suva Zone 1.

“Some of the athletes that we’re looking at to carry the school name are in the senior girls’ grade and we have some new athletes this year like Julia Benji. But it all goes towards their times and how far they can jump or throw,” Vatubua said.

ISS have groomed some athletes who have participated like Maya Ramsden who set a new record in the sub-junior girls 800 metres at the Suva Zone One meet last year.

Another medal prospect is Pio Manoa who will be participating in the intermediate boy’s 400m and 800m.

The interhouse winners will be announced in school on Friday.
