Tropical Cyclone (TC) Winston had developed into Category 2 and by noon yesterday had moved away from the Fiji Group towards Tonga.

The National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi says TC Winston will continue to track its path, but the weather model guidance forecast suggests that it may approach Fiji from the East on Thursday.

The centre said on its projected path, TC Winston was anticipated to recurve around noon tomorrow (Thursday) and take a westward track.

“At this stage, it is uncertain whether TC Winston will continue in its path and we will continue to monitor the system closely over the next few days,” director Meteorology, Ravind Kumar said.

At noon yesterday, TC Wilson was located about 370km East-Northeast of Ono-i-Lau or about 350km East-Southeast of Lakeba.

Meanwhile, the gale warning previously in force for Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Fulaga, Ogea, Kabara, Namuka, Komo, Moce, Oneata and Lakeba has been cancelled.

But, a strong wind warning remained in force last night for Lau and Lomaiviti.
