Headboy: Leadership Starts At Young Age

Responsibility is best learned when you become a leader at a young age, says Nadi Airport School headboy Viliame Vakacautadra.

Minister of Education Mahendra Reddy yesterday inducted Viliame and Asenaca Dikavu as headboy and headgirl of Nadi Airport School for 2016.

“I am honoured as it is a good opportunity to learn to be more responsible at such a young age,” Viliame said.

Viliame has been in leadership roles since Year One and thanked his parents for motivating him to always do his best at school.

He plans to become a pilot when he grows up.

Headgirl Asenaca Dikavu said: “I will take up the role and will not be afraid to lead.”

She said the tough competition during the week-long campaign was a very good encouragement for her.

She plans to become a doctor as she is always interested in science.

Other leaders

Mr Reddy also inducted six environmental officers, eight house captains, four heads and 32 school prefects.

“This is a place where we nurture and educate students for a secure Fiji,” Mr Reddy said.

The Minister also called on students to make decisions based on logic, reasoning and the ability to analyse things.

“Leaders are not necessarily born they are developed. A primary pre-requisite of a child to be a leader is confidence.”

“Confidence is about asking questions; those we some time take for granted. Confidence is about helping others taking; about providing support, mentoring or helping others in the society and school; people around you.”
