The Telecom Fijiana are  working on getting their combinations right ahead of this weekend’s Brazil Women’s  Sevens in Sao Paulo.

In a correspondence with SUNsports from Sao Paulo yesterday, Fijian Women’s Rugby coaching director Chris Cracknell said they had been focusing on their game plans during training this week.

“We are focusing on how we want to play this weekend, making sure we have our connections in attack and defence,” he said.

“Tournament week is predominantly about putting the icing on the cake to be ready for action. The girls had a pre-tournament camp and are all fit.”

He said an attempt to have a  scrimmaging session with England yesterday was turned down.

Instead the Iliesa Tanivula-coached side, Cracknell said, worked on variations in their combination to help them in the tournament.

“England declined to play against us and we are planning to have scrimmaging sessions with Spain later in the week,” he said.

“Training has gone well and all have started to adapt to the 14-hour time difference between Fiji and Brazil.”

The Fijiana side will miss their speedster Asinate Savu who sustained injury in camp in Suva earlier last week.

“It’s gutting for us not to have Asinate Savu with us because she had work tirelessly to be fit for this trip, but sadly picked up an injury in camp.

“We want to be hitting semifinals as a minimum and if we do that then we have moved a step forward from last time out.”

The Fijiana side are pooled with Australia, Canada and Ireland.
