Lawaki, Nakasaleka, Kadavu native Asaeli Sorovaki has vowed to work hard and fulfil his promise to his late dad Iliesa Sorovaki who died two years ago.

He had promised him that one day he would wear the national jumper.

The former Vodafone Fijian U20 prop was one of the U20 reps being named in the Telecom Fijian Warriors squad to prepare for the Pacific Rugby Challenge which will be held in Suva on March 8 to March 21.

“This is a big step for me to join the Fijian Warriors side and I’m proud of my achievement.

“I want to thank my family my mother and my siblings and especially my late father for their support towards my rugby career,” Sorovaki said.

“I have promised myself to work hard and sacrifice to make my dad proud in representing Fiji in the Warriors team and most importantly to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.”

Sorovaki, 20, said competition within the squad would be tough; the fact that he would be battling the prop positions with other senior players like Joeli Veitayaki, Osea Naganilau and Mesake Doge.

“This is a big challenge for me, competition will be tough but I can do it.

“To be a good prop one has to get the techniques right and the ability to maintain pressure and hold the scrum against the position,” he added.

His uncle and former national rep Sale Sorovaki has also been supporting the Kadavu native.

“My uncle Sale has been advising me to work hard and prove myself on the field because wearing the national jumper is not easy and I will need to work hard for it,” he added.

He started his rugby career since class one at Natabua Primary School before joining Ratu Kadavulevu School for one year then he moved to Central College Lautoka and finished his secondary education at Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute.
