Clerk to the Solomon Islands Parliament, Clezy Rore, on Tuesday welcomed the participants of the Parliament Reporting training programme.

They included media practitioners from Fiji and the Solomon Islands.

“Bula and welcome to the Solomons!” Mr Rore said.

Twelve journalists, five from Fiji mainstream media and seven from Solomon Islands media, as well as a Committee Secretariat staff of the Solomon Islands Parliament are attending the training programme.

Mr Rore also gave a special welcome to the creators of the programme, Patrick Gregory and Steve Taschini, who are former senior BBC news editors with experience of covering Parliament and politics in Britain, and of managing news teams there.

“You all are involved in one way or the other as this training is focused on improving the overall reporting standards of parliamentary journalism,” Mr Rore said.

“And it is through your reporting that the public is made aware of such decisions”.
