Taxi Drivers Warned of Perpetrators

Taxi around the Suva- Nausori corridor have been warned of a group of people that are fond of hiring taxis without paying them or end up assaulting taxi drivers at remote residential locations.

This has come to light after Police received numerous reports of a group of people that are hiring taxis from within Suva city asking the driver to be dropped off at residential locations like Wailoku, Namadi and Tamavua to name a few and upon reaching their destinations, the perpetrators assault the driver, abandoning the taxis without paying for their ride.

Findings from our investigations reveal these people usually work in groups whereby one group hires from within the city area and another group waits at the destination to aid in the offence of assault of the driver or theft of motor vehicle.

Taxi operators are warned to be aware of these perpetrators and are urged to stop by at the nearest police station during a journey that may feel suspicious to them. This will help the taxi driver  inform police of their journey and will create a hindrance to would be perpetrators.
