Bua Commends Goodwill Policy Consultation
The Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Osea Naiqamu.

Chiefs in Bua are happy with the consultation on the goodwill policy held at Naulumatua House in Nabouwalu on Wednesday.

Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, Tui Wainunu Ratu Orisi Baleitavea said they were happy with the proposals made by the Minister for Fisheries and Forests, Osea Naiqamu.

He said proposals ranged from $100 to $5000. Ratu Orisi said districts in Bua would hold meetings and make proposals that would be heard at the provincial council meeting in March.

Citing the powers conferred on him by the Chapter 158, Section 9 (e) of the Fisheries Act, Mr Naiqamu had stopped all ‘goodwill’ payments or fishing levies.

When he made the announcement, he also said that his ministry would undertake more national consultation with individuals and communities affected.

Tui Macuata, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said they were looking forward to the consultation.
