Paul Bayley, the new Permanent Secretary for for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport, says integrated development is critical here and it’s the way to go.

Mr Bayley explained that an integrated approach meant, for example, doing water and electricity at the same time.

He said it saved time and cost.

Mr Bayley, a banker, has also had years of experience in infrastructure development.

He is from Melbourne and has been to Fiji before as a tourist.

Mr Bayley has just arrived in the country. He said he was excited to be here.

Mr Bayley was at Namena Village, Tailevu, yesterday for the opening of the Naiutuutu Setlement electricity grid by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

He is one of five expatriate permanent secretaries.

Mr Bainimarama also toured the Namena District School.

In 2000, many of the villagers backed the George Speight coup.

Now, they had changed and supported the Government efforts.
