Taxi drivers along the Suva-Nausori corridor are warned that a group of people are allegedly hiring taxis without paying them or end up assaulting taxi drivers at remote residential locations.

Police have received numerous reports of a group of people who are alleged to have been hiring taxis from within Suva City asking the drivers to drop them at residential locations like Wailoku, Namadi or Tamavua to name a few.

Upon reaching their destinations, Police said, the perpetrators assault the driver or abandoned the taxis without the fare.

Findings from Police investigations reveal these people usually work in groups whereby one group hires from within the city area and another group waits at the destination to aid in the offence of assault of the driver or theft of motor vehicle.

Taxi operators are warned to be aware of these perpetrators and are urged to stop at the nearest Police station at the duration of such a journey that may feel suspicious to them.

This will help the taxi driver to inform Police of their journey and will create a hindrance to would be perpetrators.
