‘Seeing them lead the school in the past really inspired me’

Eunice Rainima said she always wanted to follow her older sister’s footsteps. Yesterday she did.

The 17-year-old was named headgirl among the 80 prefects inducted at Suva Grammar School in Veiuto, Suva.

“Seeing them lead the school in the past has really inspired me to follow in their footsteps,” she said.

She is the younger sister of former headgirl of the school, and former Miss Hibiscus and Miss Fiji Nanise Rainima.

“I am ready to take on the challenge and I’ll try my best to implement what I think could make Grammar a better school.

“I dedicate my achievements today to God and I thank Him for putting me into my family and having a pastor as a father who drills me and my siblings to be God’s role model; I also thank the teachers for believing in me.”

The new headgirl, who travels from Namuka Village, Nakelo daily to Suva said the distance she travelled was not a problem.

“But having a joyous heart in attending school is all that matters to me,” Eunice said.

She said she would leave her village in Nakelo at half-past-five every morning to catch the first bus to school.

Eunice is the youngest of five siblings in her family.

She hopes to pursue a career as a social worker to serve the people.
