Kolaia Kinibaka was on cloud nine after erasing a two-year record in the junior boys’ high jump.

This was during the Ratu Kadavulevu School inter-house athletics competition at Lodoni yesterday.

Representing Cakau House, the Year 10 student erased the old record of 1.65metres set in 2014 with a leap of 1.70m.

“I feel very happy but this is not the end of the road as there are many areas that I need to work on and improve.

“I finished fourth in the Coca-Cola Games last year and since this is my second year in the junior grade I will do my best to improve my performance,” Kinibaka said.

Fitness is the key for Kinibaka who has maternal links in Sabeto, Nadi.

“We need to be fit to produce positive results.

“The competition will not be easy as  everyone wants to win gold but it will all come down to fitness and how you apply the right technique,” he said.
