Ria Dipashna Devi and Aaron Ashu Prasad were proud and ready to lead after being named headgirl and headboy of Votualevu Public School in Nadi yesterday.

The college badged 81 prefects which included environmental officers, class prefects, two school heads and two deputies.

Headgirl Ria Dipashna Devi said, “I am honoured to be entrusted with the position of headgirl and I’m ready.

“I’m asking the teachers for their guidance and inspiration throughout this year.”

She said she was mostly inspired by her father Vinesh Kumar who had been a pillar of strength for her.

Headboy, Aaron gave a quote from John Maxwell who said: “Leaders become great, not because of their power, but their ability to empower others.

“As headboy I request my fellow prefects to co-operate with me and the headgirl to maintain discipline in this school. It requires a lot of sacrifice, hard work and tolerance.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar, who inducted the prefects said: “Our Prime Minister is adamant in ensuring that ‘no child gets left behind. Fiji needs such strong leaders and more so the reason, schools need to nurture and enhance such leadership skills in our children.”

She congratulated the new prefects and told them to lead with humility because they have been chosen and had the potential to guide others.

The school has a roll of 950 students and 30 teachers.
