Cakau team cheers for their team during the RKS interhouse yesterday.

Ratu Kadavulevu School is expected to field 40 athletes at the Tailevu Zone athletics competition.

Athletics manager Orisi Cakau confirmed they would be having their second trials in the next fortnight.

“The inter-house competition last Friday is our first trials and we need the best athletes for our second trials.

“Following our second trials we will select the squad of 40 for the Tailevu Zone which RKS will be hosting this year and we hope for a successful performance this year,” Cakau said.

With the guidance of former national rep Moape Vu, RKS targets six gold medals in this year’s Coca-Cola Games in April.

The boys from Delainakaikai finished fifth place last year with three gold, three silver and six bronze medals.

“We believe in our athletes,” Cakau said.

“They have been working really hard during training which is evident during the inter-house competition.

“We’ve changed our style of preparation this year as we want our athletes to be in good form come the Coke Games.”

With the unfavourable weather condition being one of the factors, Cakau said they would need to revise their training programme.

“Weather affects our preparation last year but this year it will be different.”
