Vodafone 7's rep Osea Kolinisau goes for touch down during team training at Uprising Beach Resort ground yesterday.

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan believes he has the most capped 7s players in the current squad.

Ryan has laid down the challenge as the team prepares for the remaining rounds of the World Sevens Series and the Olympic Games in Rio in August.

Ryan commended captain Osea Kolinisau’s achievement.

“I’m pretty happy with where we are,” Ryan said.

“It’s interesting when I was looking at tournament appearances for Fiji in the last 15-16 years and how many caps Osea Kolinisau got and it’s phenomenal.

“You look at some of these players like Leone Nakarawa most people think he’s a season veteran but he has only played six tournaments.

“And when you look at teams like USA, New Zealand and England they have reached 30-40 caps.”

Kolinisau debuted for Fiji at the 2008 Dubai 7s tournament. So far the Namuka-i-Lau native has won 46 caps for Fiji.

Ryan also applauded the efforts from his other team members.

“ Our most capped 7s players are the ones that are in camp right now and they are  Jasa Veremalua, Isake Katonibau, Pio Tuwai and Vatemo Ravouvou.

“It’s interesting that looking at some of those that don’t have much experience at the national 7s stage while our boys have been there, done that and won series title.

“While we want to give the opportunity to the overseas players, I’m very happy with where our local boys are progressing,” he added.

McKee visits in Europe

Meanwhile, Vodafone Flying Fijians head coach John McKee is currently in Europe having talks with few clubs in regards to the players release for the Rio Olympics.

“Before John went to France he talked about some of the boys that might be included in some of the World Sevens Series tournaments this year, so he went to see them on my behalf.

“John and I are very much team up thinking about everything, it’s good he’s over there now and hopefully some clubs help with the release,” Ryan said.
