Zero marks

Arun Prasad,  Nausori

Nemani Delaibatiki’s two-part series on education via his analysis column [F/S 17/2] was most interesting.

I wish to reiterate the burning question that he zeroed on.

How can a student score zero in an external exam?

Can the Ministry of Education throw some light on it?

In-flight service

Nardeo Mishra,  Valelevu

Last week I was on a flight to Sydney, Australia, on our international airline to see the Sydney Sevens in Australia and I had requested if I could get some liquor.

I was told by the attendant that they only served beer, wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks and water.

I said I will pay for it but he said it was a medium haul flight and they do not keep any liquor on the flight for the economy section.

It was quite surprising to see that in an international flight they do not carry any liquor, irrespective whether it is short, medium or long haul flight.

Maybe it is time that we serve our national drink. What say?

Respect for teachers

Arien Kumar,  Nadi

“Jim stop hiding there, come out boy.  Why are you shivering, come say hello to your class teacher? It’s okay, nothing to be shy or afraid of son.”

This is what the situation used to be when students encountered their teachers years ago, but what about today?

“What’s up Master, kaise story hai? Gang, please don’t tell dad that I have been missing classes recently yaar. My treat next week, I promise Master. Ok catch you later, friends waiting because boy’s outings tonight man. Would you like to join master, we need sponsors man.”

What used to be the most respectful and proud profession throughout is surely losing its dignity slowly because of the fast changing world.

To the youths and students today, you are the future teachers and leaders of tomorrow and the profession itself commands respect.
