Asela Bunileqa, 42, from Wainividio, Taipiria in Navua, says all her income-generating produce have been destroyed by Cyclone Winston.

The single mother, who supports her four children by selling cassava and breadfruit from her plantation, is devastated after it was all ruined during the cyclone.

“My plantation was my only source of income and that’s how I earned money to feed my kids,” Mrs Bunileqa said.

The roof of her house also got blown away around 8pm last Saturday night and she had moved with her children to their nearest evacuation centre, Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School. The evacuation centre at the school had about 20 people when Fiji Sun visited there yesterday.

The 13 evacuation centres in Navua are catering for families from nearby areas and settlements until it is safe to return to their homes.

Meanwhile, the Navua Police are still trying to chase children away from the Navua River and reminding them that a curfew was in place and also on the dangers of swimming in such conditions.
