A farmer of Tuvu, in Ba was devastated after his house was ripped apart by Tropical Cyclone Winston last Saturday.

Amar Chand, 53, said it was a terrifying experience for his family.

“The wind was very strong and it blew our wooden house within minutes.

“I had not much time as within seconds I had to evacuate my children to safety at our neighbour,” he said.

“Previous cyclones had come but this one tested my house and it gave up now I do not have a house for my children to rest in anymore,” he said in tears.

Meanwhile, another resident of Karavi, Ba, Sheika Rasheed, said the experience was the worst in his life.

“This house of ours has been 35 years old and have withstood some of the cyclone in the past but this one has ripped off the roof of our double storey house,” he said.

“The force of the wind had made it hard for me and my wife to open the door and flee. Luckily then my neighbour came to assist. If it had it not been for our neighbour it would have push us back.”

The areas of Ba, Tavua and Ra province was heavily affected in this natural disaster with infrastructure damaged as well.
