Cruise Ship Cancels Fiji trip

Cruise ship Pacific Pearl has cancelled its visit to two of our ports next week, following the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Instead, Tonga will receive an additional cruise ship visit to its ports this month – a bonus to the island nation.

Pacific Pearl’s was scheduled to visit the ports of Denarau and Dravuni, Kadavu at the end of this month.

However, due to the damages done by the Cyclone Winston over the weekend, this has been cancelled.

The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry says they had expected this to happen, especially after a major natural disaster.

Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Dr Ram Raju said this decision is a big loss to Fiji and especially the local vendors and business community.

“We feel that this was a premature decision and they should have reconsidered because by next week we would have fully recovered.

“As of today, all our services have almost normalised. We are starting to get electricity, water supply and shopping centres are slowly operating as normal,” Dr Raju said.

Matangi Tonga reported that Pacific Pearl will be visiting the ports of Neiafu and Nuku’alofa on February 26 and 27 respectively.

Sandy Tu’ipulotu of the Tonga government’s Tourism Division confirmed from the shipping agent that the cruise ship had cancelled its visit to Fiji.
