Telecom Fijiana 7s coach, Iliesa Tanivula was very proud of the performance of our players during the Women’s Sevens Series in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last weekend.

Fiji lost to France 5-17 in the Plate final.

“It was not easy, but I’m proud how the girls handled themselves considering the destruction at home by Tropical Cyclone Winston,” Tanivula said.

“It affected the girls, especially when some of their loved ones were affected.

“The girls just got on with it, but other teams had mental toughness to get up and get on with the job.”

Tanivula said last year they  finished eighth in the series.

“But this year in Dubai, we finished seventh and now we’re sixth and the team is taking small steps at a time.

“The target was to be a medal contender come the Rio Olympics in August. We’re currently ranked sixth and we need to work harder to be in the third place at least.

“The squad will take one week  break and will meet next week for fitness test and camp before the next leg in Atlanta-Langford (Canada) in April,” he said.
