To Aussies & Kiwis: Major Fijian Tourist Destinations Are Open For Business. Perfectly.

This is an open letter to our Aussie and Kiwi neighbours: “Please disregard the travel advisory against coming here for a holiday. The truth is that there is no danger to your safety. Major tourist destinations are open for business, assures Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

“The best way to help Fiji rebuild in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston is to come here,” he said.

The Australian advisory says “we advise you to reconsider your need to travel in Fiji due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Winston.”

It adds: “Tourist infrastructure has been affected in parts of the country and clean-up operations are underway. Travellers with imminent travel plans are advised to check with their accommodation provider directly to verify whether their accommodation has been affected by the cyclone.”

The truth is that there were no major disruptions and hotels/resorts are operating normally.

The last part of the advisory is: however, true that “Fiji is generally peaceful with no significant security concerns.”

Those responsible for putting out the advisory need to change it to reflect the current situation in our main tourism areas.
