Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called on political parties not to politicise the distribution of food rations to victims of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

He strongly refuted claims by the Fiji Labour Party (FLP) that there is discrimination in the distribution of relief supplies to the victims of TC Winston.

“Where are they getting the facts from?” he asked. Mr Bainimarama told the Fiji Sun at Tavua District School yesterday that this criticism was baseless.

He said he did not want the distribution of food rations to be politicised by any political party.

“What are they doing to the cyclone victims?” he asked.

The PM said the people were suffering; they needed help and that was what Government was doing.

Mr Bainimarama was at Tavua yesterday visiting the evacuation centres and heard what the people wanted.

At Tavua a total of 1956 people were at the evacuation centres at Tavua District School, Tavua College and at Nadelei Catholic School.

Speaking to the evacuees, the Prime Minister said that school would start next Monday and urged them to move to their make shift homes.

He said before they moved out they should clean the classrooms properly.

Mr Bainimarama urged them to go back to their homes and start constructing a new home before new houses are built.

“You should not be down-hearted with the damage caused by TC Wilson. Let’s be united and move forward as one.”

Meanwhile the head teacher of Tavua District School, Jale Delai, assured the PM that they would start classes next Monday.
