Three Naval ships from our neighbours- Australia and New Zealand will soon be in Fiji, assisting in relief work after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Already on its way is Australia’s navy flagship HMAS Canberra. This will be the first time this ship would be involved in such an operation.

Apart from carrying relief supplies, this ship also has onboard a fully functional hospital, pharmacy, doctors and nurses and the equipment needed to carry out surgeries.

The 230 metre long ship is also 12 storeys high and has enough supplies to feed its 1400 crew members for 42 days.

Also on its way are two New Zealand ships-the HMNZS Canterbury and the HMNZS Wellington.

The HMZS Canterbury is a New Zealand Navy ship which has apart from relief supplies, helicopters on board which will be used to deliver relief supplies to outer islands.

Supplies on board the HMNZS Canterbury includes building materials, medical supplies and tanks to store water.

The New Zealand fire service engineers will also be part of the those who will be assisting in repair works.

The HMNZS Wellington is an offshore patrol vessel.
