Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee in Labasa yesterday handed over a cheque for $25,000 to Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea for the Cyclone Winston appeal.

The president of the committee, Rajesh Rishiram, said on Thursday night they had a meeting with the members and decided to contribute some funds to help victims in the Northern Division.

“The best way we determined was by simply handing over a cheque of $25,000 to Mr Vocea and he would decide where to put it to use because he knows the places affected better than us,” Mr Rishiram said.

“This annual festival over the years has helped improve lives of the people in Vanua Levu through various community projects and contributing to this Cyclone Winston appeal is an additional support from us.”

Mr Rishiram told Mr Vocea that the committee had not forgotten about their 2015 community projects.

“As promised very soon cardiac machines will be brought to Labasa Hospital,” Mr Rishiram said.

“The hospital has given us a place which we will renovate and let it operate as a cardiac centre attending to all heart patients.”

“We would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters and we continue to urge people to support us as this year again at the festival,” he said.

Mr Vocea thanked the committee for their support.
