Schools in Bua and Cakaudove will start on March 7 while schools in Macuata will be starting next Monday.

Speaking during the National Disaster Management Office briefing at the Commissioner Northern’s office in Labasa on Wednesday, the primary school’s education officer northern Iliana Volai said Bua and Cakaudrove schools were categorised as ‘C’.

“School categorised as ‘C’ means, schools that are completely damaged that is why the management needs more time to clean up and repair the school,” she said.

The rep said the ministry would put up temporary sheds and tents for classes after cleaning up.

“For the schools in Macuata it’s all categorised as ‘A’ which means they are partially damaged, meaning schools can resume next Monday.”

Meanwhile, four schools will remain closed next Monday, because the structural damage was not safe for students.

The Northern teams on the ground are still assessing damage at Naweni District School, Lavena Primary, Vuna District and Waimakilu Primary in Cakudrove.

Meanwhile, Bua schools that will remain closed are Vuya District, Nadi District, Baravi Primary and Kubulau District schools.
