Warriors Stay Positive: O’Connor

Thirty-seven players of the Telecom Fijian Warriors extended squad are in camp at the Pacific Theological College (PTC), Nasese. Suva

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said despite the devastation Tropical Cyclone Winston they need to stay positive ahead of the World Rugby Pacific Rugby Challenge which starts on March 8 in Suva.

“Everything is coming together for the team and we are preparing accordingly,” O’Connor said.

“Though we only have less than two weeks to prepare we cannot control what happened but we can try to be positive.

“Obviously the impact of Cyclone Winston has had a negative impact not only on the players but their families mainly those in Vatukoula and Tavua but we are glad that despite that, players still have decided to come into camp.

Going up against Samoa A, Tonga A and Junior Japan, O’Connor said they have an advantage over Fiji.

“These other countries don’t have to deal with what we face in the past couple of days so they will have a slight advantage over us in that aspect,” he said.

“But all we can do is train and prepare and give it our best at the competition and I am confident the boys will give it their all.”

The team will be reduced to 28 next week.
