The Fiji Car Club will organise a Winston Appeal Drag Race at Taunovo Bay Airstrip in Pacific Harbour today.

Club president Raizal Haniff said in light of the devastation caused by TC Winston, it was time to pitch in and help the community.

“The media is showing us what is happening all over the country and it saddens us to see so many suffer so this is our way of helping,” Haniff said.

“We are planning to either donate it to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund or if we have the manpower and time, we will buy food rations and other things that people need.

“Our focus will be mostly the west and some of the outer islands because these are the places that have been severely affected.”

Haniff said it will be a fun-filled day for families to enjoy themselves and bring a bit of happiness to their lives.

“There will be no competition, it is just a day filled with fun for the families and I think it will do them good especially with everything that has been going on lately,” he said.

“The drag race is open to anyone, we want as much people who can take part and do it for a good cause.

“It is times like this we should be helping one another and come together as a nation.”

The Winston Appeal Drag Race will stage the Quarter Mile Drag as well as Drag Wars.

The race starts at 10.30am.
