Drag Race Raises $2K

The Fiji Car Club raised $2000 during their Winston Appeal Drag Race at Taunovo Bay Airstrip in Pacific Harbour yesterday.
Club president Raizal Haniff said they reached their target to help those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston which devastated parts of the country.
“We are extremely happy about reaching our targeted amount because we know this will go to a good cause,” Haniff said.
“Considering a lot of people locally and abroad are pitching in to help those affected by the cyclone, we thought we would do our small part and contribute.
“I could say that those living in Suva were lucky to have not been hit as bad by the cyclone as those in the west and outer islands, so we want to do our part and help.
“This race was open to anyone who wanted to take part whether they were a member or not.
“I am happy that people actually came out to support this good cause and to also have fun during this tough time.
“I have been to Rakiraki and saw the devastation this cyclone has caused and seeing all this with your own eyes, you wouldn’t believe such a thing could happen.
“We are thankful the weather held up to allow us to go through with this charity event to give back to the community,” he said.
Donation buckets were passed around which raised $875 while the executive committee of the Fiji Car Club gave $1000 while other club members put in extra effort to raise the remaining amount.
The money will be given to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund this week.
