The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has gone above and beyond in helping Cyclone Winston victims and communities get back on their feet.

Not only have engineers and soldiers been at the frontline of helping people in worst hit areas like Koro and Ra, they have has also dedicated an entire day’s pay to Government’s disaster relief fund.

A total of $170, 986.41 was handed over to Government by the acting Commander, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

And not just any day but yesterday’s one-in-four-years Leap Year.

The acting Commander said like any other organisation and individual, their hearts went out to the victims who had lost loved ones, their homes and their livelihood.

Members of the RFMF too were also affected, he said.

“The RFMF led by the Third Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (3FIR) has been deployed to the worst affected areas to help in rebuilding their lives back to normalcy,” he said.

He said they were also working closely with their counterparts from the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
