Fiji National Provident Fund will be providing their members with a new form from tomorrow to make things easier for those members who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

These funds can be used to rebuild their homes or rebuild homes of their relatives. In an interview Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum mentioned that a statutory declaration will need to be signed before the withdrawal is made.

“We have had discussions with Fiji National Provident Fund and from tomorrow onwards, a statutory declaration will need to be signed by the members,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“The declaration will involve, for example, a person wanting to withdraw a $1000 will need to sign a statutory declaration form with their FNPF detail numbers and then the money will be placed in their bank accounts.

“The other declaration relates to people who want to withdraw more than a $1000 up to $5000 to fix up their homes or homes of the family members.”

He also mentioned that those making false declarations could have legal action taken against them.

“Fundamentally FNPF’s reliance is on people to make honest declarations,” he said.

“The repercussion of signing or making a false declaration will attract a criminal penalty because false declaration is a criminal act so people should not do that.”

He also urged members to make use of the opportunity rather not misuse the facility.

“Use the funds as this facility has been made available. Do not hesitate to withdraw funds to help your family members rebuild their homes.

“Use the money wisely and for the specific purpose that FNPF is allowing you to use.”
