To help out needy Fijians, RC Manubhai and Company Limited yesterday donated pre-painted roofing sheets worth $400,000.

This is to help in rebuilding structures after the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Additionally Bremick Fasteners, an Australian company which some of their products are sold in Fiji by RC Manubhai, also contributed hardware goods worth $50,000.

While receiving the aid, Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum thanked RC Manubhai for the contribution.

He said Government would decide where the hardware materials would be used.

He said schools might get the first priority.

“I would like to thank RC Manubhai and Co Limited for the donation by way of supplying the roofing materials which will be used for schools, but of course Government will decide where the priorities are,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“Schools are of course one of the key priorities for Government.”

He said such donations were important and he urged other businesshouses to help during this difficult time.

“These kinds of very practical donations by way of assistance are most welcome and this is of course a time to show generosity.

“This is the time we need to understand and empathise with those who have been affected by the cyclone.

“We urge all businesshouses to dig deep into their pockets to ensure everyone gets up and running and this will benefit the economy,” he said.

RC Manubhai and Company Limited managing director Dinesh Patel said the contribution was an obligation the company felt they had to provide.

“As part of the business community, it is always a corporate obligation to help the Government and help the people in need, especially after natural disasters,” Mr Patel said. Edited by Maikeli Seru.
