Known to be rivals in the sporting arena, Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) has opened its doors to students Queen Victoria School (QVS) and St John’s College. There are 18 QVS and nine St John’s College students studying at Marist Brothers High School following the severe damage St John’s and QVS suffered when Cyclone Winston hit the country.

The students from MBHS were more than eager to welcome their new colleagues from QVS and St John College with open arms and smiles as if the rivalry never existed.

Year 10 QVS student, Jacob Fox, said he felt comfortable joining MBHS temporarily but was looking forward to return to QVS when it is up and running again.

To date, students from other schools are still coming in. Once there are a fixed number of students the MBHS school committee will have counseling sessions for each level to help them move on from the trauma they experienced during the cyclone.

As a token to help other students affected by the cyclone around the country Year 12 and 13 students of MBHS each contributed $5; Year 9 to Year 11 students contributed $3 each.

Initially this donation was to be handed over to help the students of QVS, but the MBHS school managers and students reviewed this and decided that their donation be shared equally to all other schools affected around the country.
