A Disaster Response Team from the world renowned logistic company DHL is in the country to assist the National Disaster Management Office logistic team.

Director Disaster Management, Akapusi Tuifagalele said the six-member-team arrived into the country this morning.

“The team has experience in warehousing and distribution and will be based at all the points of entry into the country (airports and ports),” Mr Tuifagalele said.

The team brought with them electronic tracking equipment (i.e laptops/scanners/stickers etc) and will be able to electronically record and track all the cargo coming into Fiji and those to be dispatched.

“The electronic tracking of stores will be centralized and will produce daily reports for the Director NDMO and assist in reporting to Government.”

Mr Tuifagalele added the team will also provide training to the NDMO logistic staff on the use of the equipment and when they depart, they will leave the equipment for ongoing use by the NDMO logistic team.

“This will go a long way for NDMO in the future management of logistics in disaster preparedness and response,” Mr Tuifagalele said.
