NDMO Plans To Clear School On Sunday

Efforts are underway to ensure that schools used as evacuation centres around the around are vacant by Sunday says National Disaster Management Office director Akapusi Tuifagalele.

Of the 95 schools that were being used as evacuation centres, 79 still have evacuees.

“Hopefully by Sunday we will be able to clear the schools,” Mr Tuifagalele said.

He said the Western Division has 30,663 evacuees at 379 evacuation centres.

 

Education

The estimated cost of damage to the education sector is now $46.2m

A total of 271 schools were affected by the cyclone – 131 remain closed.

 

Forestry

Mr Tuifagalele said the Ministry has tendered out expression of interest closing on March 11 where contactors could buy pine logs from the Dawasamu area.
