FEA: Power Restoration Works On Track

The Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) teams are continuing with repairs and replacement of the transmission, sub-transmission and distribution lines in order to restore power supply.

Western Division

Works are on track with the restoration of the 132kV transmission line from Wailoa to the Vuda which has cut off power supply from the Wailoa Power Station to the Western Division.

We have completed with the construction of a temporary Tabular Pole structure and are in the process of freeing up the tangled conductors from the fallen tower and stringing it to the temporary pole structure.

We are hoping to complete works on this fallen tower in the weekend if the weather is favourable.

Works are simultaneous progressing on the two fallen towers on the Nadarivatu 132kV transmission line which has cut off power supply from the Nadarivatu Hydro Power Scheme.

With three fallen transmission towers, there is limited electricity supply in the Western Division. Currently, our electricity generation is from the Diesel Power Stations in Sigatoka, Nadi, Qeleloa and Vuda which is insufficient for our valued customers in these parts of the Western Division.

With limited generation capacity in these areas, we have had to resort to load shedding and would like to thank all our valued customers in Sigatoka, Nadi and Lautoka corridor who are assisting by operating their own stand-by generator sets independently to cater for their power requirements and request them to continue until we are able to fully restore power supply to the Western Division.

The Vuda to Rarawai 33kV sub-transmission line has sustained extensive damages to the power line which transports power from Vuda towards Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.

Upon full site inspection, fifteen out of the two hundred and ninety six poles are completely down whilst many others are leaning and need to be straightened.

Our teams are carrying out repair works on this power line with assistance from the contractors.

We also have some diesel generators in Rakiraki and once the distribution lines are repaired we should be able to restore supply power to the Rakiraki Hospital and Rairaki town.

Northern Division

Labasa

Power supply has been fully restored in the Labasa, Seaqaqa & Dreketi areas.

Our teams from Labasa have now been deployed to Savusavu to assist with power restoration.

Central Division

Power Supply restoration is on-gong since Sunday 21st February, 2016.

We have energised close to 88 per cent of the areas in the Central Division and restoration continues in the other areas.

Full restoration in the Central Division is anticipated before the end of next week.

Eastern Division

The Levuka Power Station had sustained damages to its roof and the gensets. We have been able to temporary repair the roof and the Power Station is operational after the gensets have been repaired.

The Levuka Distribution network has suffered extensive damages with at least 80 per cent of the power poles and lines requiring attention.

The FEA team in Levuka, together with contractors are currently carrying out repairs to the distribution lines and once repaired, we will energise the lines.

In the meantime, FEA wishes to thank all our valued customers around Fiji who are assisting by operating their own stand-by generator sets independently to cater for their power requirements and request them to continue until we are able to fully restore power supply.

Customers may experience power supply interruptions and we would recommend that you economize your consumption and take necessary precaution with plant or equipment that are sensitive to power fluctuations. FEA will endeavor to control and minimize power interruptions.

The FEA sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all our valued customers which is beyond our control.
