Residents of Maururu Settlement in Ba praised the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation,  Rosy Akbar for reaching out to families who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Ms Akbar, while visiting the Settlement, provided the families she visited with food rations.

She also encouraged residents to work together in rebuilding their lives.

Simione Tora, the settlement spokesman  briefed Ms Akbar of the damage caused to their homes, plantations and power lines.

Mr Tora said the damage done by the cyclone did not dampen their spirit.

“Never mind we don’t have enough to eat, never mind some of the homes have been broken down, our unity and strength to rebuild our lives is stronger than the challenges we face. We thank Minister Akbar for visiting us. Her visit has assured us that we are not alone during this time,” Mr Tora said.

“Minister Akbar is the first Minister to visit us and it reflects on the FijiFirst Government’s timely response to address our needs.
