Raiwaqa started the season winning the first round of the Commodore’s Community Cup beating defending champions Nabua 32-5 at Buckhurst Ground yesterday.

This is the third year the Commodore’s Community Cup and Raiwaqa won the first tournament in 2014.

Raiwaqa coach Maleli Uluimoa said though they won the first round, there was still a lot of improvement to be made.

“Pulling a win felt really good knowing that our seven weeks of pre-season training and one week of friendly matches had paid off,” Uluimoa said.

“Our main target this year is to get the title back from Nabua and I can say that it has been a good start for us but it will not be easy.

“We still need to improve in all aspects of the game and we need to work as a team.

“Harmony among the players is very important and we are trying to make them work together as a team and also build them up as individuals.

Meanwhile, Nabua assistant coach Niko Tuivuya said although it was disappointing to lose, it is only the first match as their main aim for the competition is to prepare them for the Escott Shield.

“You need to lose before you can win, I think that applies in our case because it is only the first game,” Tuivuya said.

“Our main aim for this competition is to get the boys prepared for the Escott Shield
