US Tops Up Assistance

The United States has topped up its humanitarian assistance with US400,000 (F$ 848,180) for reconstruction efforts after Cyclone Winston.

US Embassy deputy chief of mission Doug Sonnek made the announcement yesterday at the Fiji Red Cross Society office in Suva.

He said the funds was part of a three-year Building Resilient Communities programme which was launched on January 22 with a value of $US1.278million (F$2.71m).

Through the US Agency for International Development, the US will enhance the Fiji Red Cross’ aims in delivering emergency aid including support for a comprehensive response to Cyclone Winston.

The funding is in addition to the previously announced US$800,000 (F$ 1.69m) in emergency funding.
