Today is the 16th day since the monstrous Cyclone Winston hit and caused massive destruction around our country.

According to the preliminary figures gathered by National Disaster Management Office, a total of 18,154 houses in Fiji were affected during the fury of Winston.

There were 4864 houses fully destroyed in the Western Division; this is the highest recorded in the country.

National Disaster Management Office director Akapusi Tuifagalele said the NDMO would today reveal its next course of action for the next 15 days after conducting a stock take of all relief supplies currently under its custody.

“The NDMO team in Vanuabalavu has set up an onsite emergency operation centre to co-ordinate the island relief and recovery measures.

Mr Tuifagalele also stated that a number of schools that were used as evacuation centres would open for classes today.
