Newly-appointed Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto hopes to immediately address and ensure the RFMF carries out its role as required in the 2013 Constitution.

“What I want to do as quickly as possible is to make sure that the organisation is fit for the role that is assigned to it,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said.

“The RFMF role is basically in two parts. The first one is our role here at home that is given to us in the 2013 Constitution, Section 131 and that role is a big one to ensure the safety, security and well-being of Fiji and all Fijians.”

He said he would also need to look at the organisation’s structure in terms of the way they position their troops to make sure that soldiers were available whenever required.

The second part is the performance of peacekeeping duties.

“I bank a lot on the experience and feedbacks of those at the frontline for us to do that shaping for RFMF,” he said.

“At the same time we will be looking at building our capabilities to prepare RFMF into the future.”

Brigadier-General Qiliho

Confirmed Fiji Police Force Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said it was good that he had acted in the position earlier.

This, he said enabled him to understand what was needed to be done in the force.

“Following my appointment, I felt the load straight away of what I had to do,” Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho said.

“Five years is a period where I really need to deliver to the expectations of Government and the people of Fiji.”

He also said there were greater operational plans in place but there was a structure that needed to go with it.

This was something he would focus on, he said.
