After the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Winston, villages on Koro Island in Lomaiviti will relocate except for Vatulele village.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Permanent Secretary for the iTaukei Affairs Board, Apakuki Kurusiga yesterday.Mr Kurusiga spent a week in Koro after TC Winston and visited all the affected villages.

He said they all wanted to be relocated to higher ground.

Mr Kurusiga said during their climate change workshops on the island, they were told that relocation was preferred the best option for them.

He said Sinuvaca Village had already cleared the new site for relocation.

For the other villages, he said they were meeting with the landowners to get their consent for the new site.

He said the iTaukei Affairs Board village survey team was on the island to carry out their survey once the landowners gave their consent.

Mr Kurusiga said it was good that the decision for relocation had come from them after the experience they faced in the wake of the cyclone.

Government has agreed to fund the relocation.
