In a bid to improve and build the Fiji – China relationship, the China Chamber of Commerce of Fiji will be set up soon.

This was confirmed by the chief guest, Chinese Embassy in Fiji Economic and Commercial Counsellor Yang Xunlei during the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry mini-business forum at Tanoa Skylodge hotel yesterday.

“I hope it could establish the ties with Fijian business organisations including Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to build effective platforms for the companies from both sides,” he said.

Mr Yang added that at enterprise level there is need to make full use of Chinese trade fairs and exhibitions to seek for business opportunities and find reliable business partners.

“These are the Canton Fair, China International Fair for Investment and Trade and Yiwu International Commodities Fair.”

He said the future development between China and Fiji is big – China is a huge market and is big for Fiji.

“Fiji is good for China, as a gate of Fiji, Nadi will play a curial role in the future and how Nadi can deepen economic and trade cooperation with China.”

According to the trade data of the last 20 years, the percentage of Fijian export to China is only about 10 percent.

“Many Fijian products have strong attraction in higher-end niche markets of China, such as organise agriculture products, seafood, skin, and beauty products.

“Fiji and China can make joint efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Fijian aquatic products though technical and commercial cooperation.

During the Chinese New Year festival Rosie Holidays brought four chartered flights from China and expects the number to continue rise this year.

Member of Parliament – Member of standing committee of the Natural Resources Samuela Vunivalu said the forum is needed to boost Nadi town in future economic and development plan in becoming the city by 2017.
