A 39-year-old father is in Police custody after he allegedly knifed his 15-year-old daughter and wife last Friday night in Siberia, Labasa.

It is alleged the man came home drunk causing an argument after which his eldest daughter called the Labasa Police Station.

Two other siblings were sleeping in the house but woke up at the time of the argument.

Divisional Police commander northern Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shri Bhawan Singh said the father, using a cane knife, hit the daughter on the head and leg.

“The mother was trying to save her daughter and in the process got knifed in the arm,” SSP Singh said.

“When Police officers arrived on the scene the suspect fought with them and punched a Police officer.”

The suspect is being held in Police custody for interrogation while the daughter and the mother are admitted at the Labasa Hospital.”

The mother is in a stable condition while the daughter is critical.

 

Bus accident truck driver released

The truck driver of Kashmir Transport Limited who allegedly caused an accident in front of Wasavulu Village in Labasa has been questioned and released.

The truck driver on Friday afternoon was overtaking a bus belonging to Parmod Enterprises Limited which stopped in front of the village because some passengers were getting off.

When the driver saw an incoming vehicle he tried to go back to the lane and in the process hit the back end of the bus from the side causing it to fall into the drain.

Most of the passengers were students returning from Nakama to Labasa; they had jumped out of the bus when the accident happened.

Police DPC northern SSP Singh said the truck driver had been taken to Labasa Hospital and sent home after treatment.

“He was brought in for questioning and released as investigation continues,” SSP Singh said.

“No one has died but some passengers received minor injuries; they were treated and sent home.”
