Two separate house fires on Thursday night have left six people homeless after the homes were  destroyed.

The National Fire Authority attended to the house fires in Ba and Rakiraki.

NFA received a call at 2240 hours from Vatulaulau in Ba and responded succeeded in controlling the fire.

However, the three-bedroom corrugated iron and timber structure was totally destroyed by the fire. The family was at home when the fire started but they were able to get out of the house safely.

Another fire was reported from Vitawa Village in Rakiraki at 2255 hours.

The concrete structured house was also destroyed by fire.  The family was also able to get out of the house safely.

Meanwhile NFA investigations are underway to determine the causes of both the fires.

Chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said:“Whilst most part of the country are without electricity, it is also very important for home owners to be more vigilant when using candles, prayer diyas, mosquito coils, etc, as such fire ignition sources can easily start a fire,” Mr Moceitai said.
